President's Welcome

Dear Shalom Parent,

On behalf of the Parent and Friends Association Executive I welcome you to Shalom 2010. The P & F Association is an important part of the Shalom College Community and as a parent you are automatically a member. The P & F Association provides parents with an opportunity to be involved in college activities, to be informed and have a say in what’s happening.

P & F Meetings are held every first Tuesday of the month at 7.00 pm. All parents and friends are welcome and are encouraged to attend.

This year - Shalom’s 25th anniversary, is an appropriate time to reflect on the function of our P & F Association. To assist the College’s growth in past years, significant P & F endeavour has been directed to areas of infrastructure development and equipment purchase. The P & F has recently been relieved of one such major financial support project, enabling funds to be redirected providing us with opportunity to further develop the College Community itself. Such opportunities may include:

  1. Expanding the College social calendar for parents, students and staff.
  2. Developing methods of improved communication within the P & F especially using electronic media.
  3. Contributing to our wider community by establishing regular educational events involving recognised speakers open to regional schools.
  4. Providing financial assistance and other assistance to individuals and groups from the College Community according to discerned protocols.

Such plans require commitment from the College Community. Firstly we must be able to fund our endeavours. We are lucky at Shalom in having the Sunday Markets, which provide us with a means to raise significant income - income earned entirely at the Sunday Market by parents and friends selling food and drinks in the College owned and run Canteen. It is vital for us to ensure this commitment by using a roster system that is fair to all. Each family only needs to work 2 Sunday sessions per year (6 hours total) to ensure the roster is filled.

Secondly we need to have enough P & F members involved in implementing our plans. In any P & F Association there is always room for more parents to be involved and I look forward this year to seeing some new faces at meetings and social events.

Furthermore to encourage more opportunities for parent involvement in the school community we invite each Shalom family to commit to at least one College Community Activity (C.C.A) per year. This translates into 6 – 10 hours of contribution per family per year – a responsibility we feel manageable by all Shalom families. Please use the tab at the top of this page to view and select your preferred C.C.A. While you're there, let us know if you have a special area of expertise (eg. computer skills) that might be helpful to the P & F.

You can email the P & F with you thoughts and suggestions
